Southeast summers

When in Southeast Alaska one learns to make the most of a sunny day, and the rest of the time try and ignore the rain. Juneau is beautiful all the time, but spectacular in the sunshine.

The Kings are running, so when tours are done for the evening we head down to the mouth of Sheep Creek and fish. So far all that has graced our table is a Dolly Varden or two, ( very tastey!!) Tonight is Gold Rush Beach Party night, crab and camp fires. From out beach at the end of the road we can see accross to Sandy Beach. All of the beautifull white sand came up from California. When mining was big, the ships came up to pick up ore, they needed balast to make the trip up, they could not make the trip empty, so Sand! And now decades later Sandy Beach.

Another bit of Juneau info:There are more miles of maintained hiking trails than miles of roads. It does not take long to see that this is a very active community. There are biking and running clubs, guided hikes once per week. Check out the link :   http://www.juneau-guide.com/juneau-alaska-hiking.htm
